Calendar Details in Lightbox

We have upgraded the default calendar functionality so that when an event is clicked in the Calendar or List view, it opens up a nicely designed "lightbox" with all the details for the event. This can be closed and the visitor is still on the original calendar page. This makes viewing calendar events more convenient. Previously we had a details preview that popped up and the visitor had to then go to another details page, then return to the calendar, etc. Our upgrade provides a much more streamlined workflow.

We also took the time to upgrade the design of the details page, in case anyone visits the page directly.

Calendar Date Picker

By
Date Picker Calendar

We have added support for a more visual calendar date picker to the CMS. So now when you pick dates, you don't have to consult another calendar to figure out what the date is of next Tuesday. The picker supports keyboard arrows for toggling the hours up and down, or specific number inputs.

New Default Portfolio Page

We've been busy overhauling the look and feel of many of the advanced functionality pages that you may be using on your site. You may have noticed some marked improvement, if you happen to be using the default design (most people are). We recently mentioned the design and functionality upgrades to the calendar, but we've also improved the look of other pages:

  • Blog
  • Contact Page
  • Profiles
  • Portfolio
  • Testimonials
  • Resources Files
  • Multimedia
  • Communities

If you considered using one of these pages in the past, but weren't happy with how it looked, try it again. If you add the information and a nice photo to your records, these pages on your site will look fabulous.

Calendar

We recently completed a whole slew of functionality upgrades, including some great new features for our calendar. Some of the upgrades include:

  • Advanced Repetition Options: now you can get crazy with custom repeating events, until your brain explodes with the possibilities.
  • Popup Details: now clicking on an event in the calendar brings up a simple popup box that lists the important details for an event (plus an option to view the full event details).
  • List View: now you can view your events in a long list (instead of a month based calendar). This is helpful for events that occur over an entire year, e.g. concert dates.
  • Improved Viewing Options: we've improved the interface for selecting the view mode, date range, and categories.
  • Improved Looks: we've improved the look of the entire calendar.
  • Subscribe Options: now people can subscribe to your calendar so that their local calendar program can be automatically updated and synced with your website calendar.
  • Import/Export: now you can import and/or export to/from any major calendar program, e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCal, Google Calendar, etc. This should save a lot of time setting up your calendar on Gutensite, and help you keep them synced much better.

Just to name a few. If you have other ideas, let us know and we can consider incorporating them in our next revision.
